About the Exhibition

We invite you to join us on a journey of sublime light, bridging tradition and modernity through the medium of light and dark.

Sublime Light is a space where color and colorlessness coexist, where light and darkness are in dialogue.

Works in color and works in black and white each penetrate tradition and modernity, sensation and contemplation, vibrancy and stillness, and invite us to rediscover the meaning of sublime light.

For the first exhibition of the new year of 2025, the Jageun Art Museum has organized a special exhibition by emerging young photographer Heejin Yang, who explores the essence of our traditions and reimagines them through a contemporary lens, documenting our journey together towards a new light.

We wish you a 2025 where you discover sublime beauty in the spaces you inhabit and the light you encounter.

빛과 어둠을 매개로 전통과 현대를 잇는 숭고한 빛의 여정으로 초대합니다.

Sublime Light(숭고한 빛)은 색과 무색이 공존하며 빛과 어둠이 대화하는 공간입니다.

색의 작업과 흑백의 작업은 각각 전통과 현대, 감각과 사유, 생동감과 고요함을 관통하며 숭고한 빛의 의미를 재발견하게 합니다.

작은미술관의 2025년 새해 첫 전시는, 우리 전통의 본질을 탐구하며 이를 현대적 시선으로 재구성하여 우리가 함께 새로운 빛을 향해 나아가는 여정을 기록하고있는 양희진 청년사진작가의 특별전시로 기획하였습니다.

Artist Statements

Light and dark, a journey in between.

By excluding color, works in black and white stimulate the viewer deeply through the contrasts of light and dark, form and white space. The absence of color forces the viewer to imagine color on their own, leading them to go beyond mere visual appreciation to their own interpretation of the intrinsic meaning and philosophical symbolism of color.

The existence of light is only revealed in the presence of darkness, and vice versa, darkness adds direction and depth to light. This exhibition aims to expand our senses and thoughts through the contrast of light and darkness.

Bridging tradition and modernity through the medium of light and darkness.

The beauty of the five colors of the hanbok and the traditional aesthetics of the hanbok are more than just a combination of colors; they symbolize the harmonious connection between nature and humans, time and space. The beauty of these traditional colors is directly tied to Korean sentiment and aesthetics.

The vibrancy and vitality created by light, and the warmth and splendor of traditional colors blend with the modern landscape to express the vitality of a tradition that has stood the test of time.

빛과 어둠, 그 사이에서 나아가는 여정.

흑백의 작업은 색을 배제함으로써 빛과 어둠, 형태와 여백의 대조를 통해 내면을 깊이 자극합니다. 색이 없는 여백은 스스로 색을 상상하게 만들며, 단순히 시각적 감상을 넘어 색동이 가진 본질적 의미와 철학적 상징을 스스로 재해석하도록 이끌어 냅니다.

빛의 존재는 어둠이 있어야 비로소 드러나고, 그 반대로 어둠은 빛의 방향과 깊이를 더해줍니다. 이번 전시는 빛과 어둠의 대조를 통해 우리가 느낄 수 있는 감각과 사유의 확장을 목표로 합니다.

빛과 어둠을 매개로 전통과 현대를 잇다.

색동이 가진 오방색의 아름다움과 한복의 전통적 미감은 단순한 색의 조합을 넘어, 자연과 인간, 시간과 공간의 조화로운 연결을 상징합니다. 이러한 전통적 색채의 아름다움을 직접적으로 드러내며, 한국적인 정서와 미학을 마주합니다.

빛이 만들어내는 생동감과 활력을 보여주며 전통의 색감이 주는 따뜻함과 화려함은 현대적 풍경과 어우러져 시간의 흐름 속에서도 여전히 살아 숨 쉬는 전통의 생명력을 표현합니다.
